Palo Verde church of Christ - Tucson, AZ
LORI ELIZABETH JOHNSON MEMORIAL YOUTH DEVELOPMENT FUND

Lori Johnson was PASSIONATE about Palo Verde's Leadership Training for Christ program. Because of her passion and devotion to the church youth we have created this fund in her honor.

About the Memorial Fund

The overall mission of the memorial fund is to enhance the faith and success of the Palo Verde church of Christ youth through participation in the Leadership Training for Christ Program. LTC is designed to stimulate children's interest in and understanding of God and the teaching of Jesus Christ. This training encourages the church's youth, grades 3rd through 12th to live for Christ and to serve others. This example brings the gospel to their families, neighbors and friends.

This memorial fund is an endowment that will aid children and their families for many years into the future. All contributions, small and large are most welcome and will be handled in a responsible manner by the management committee. The management committee consists of the the following people:

Sherry Evans, Co-Chairperson, LTC and church Representative

Jackie Fry, Co-Chairperson, and family representative

Steve Ivanecky, (Lori's brother), family representative

Brendon Holt,Church representative

Mike Wearly, church representative

Don Fry, Advisor to the committee

Promises have been made and they have been kept:

1. A signed legal agreement, actionable in court has been put in place to protect the fund until the end of time.

2. A Managing Committee has been established and is functioning.

3. A dedicated checking account has been established to collect and disperse funds.

4. A conservative investment vehicle is in place, and is currently generating interest for the scholarship awards.

Benefits of the fund can be far reaching if fully developed.

A. Children and their families who do not have the discretionary funds to participate in LTC will be able to do so in the future.

B. With a reduced need for fund raising projects it will be easier to recruit adult leaders if they know they will not have the pressure to raise funds and work with the youth at the same time.

C. The need to ask the congregation for funds at some point in the future could be reduced or eliminated.

D. The need to apply to the church budget for funds can be reduced or eliminated. LTC could become self sufficient.

C. Should the fund grow, monies could be available for summer camp scholarships, and other youth programs and activities.

STATUS- AS OF MARCH 1, 2010:

Currently we have $19,650.00 working in the fund. We need to raise an additional $ 10,350.00 to complete the initial goal of $30,000. We have had 90 individual contributions from a few dollars to thousands of dollars, which is awesome.
